OvaGene Oncology Inc. (OvaGene) is a newly formed, privately-held, biotechnology company, based in Orange County, CA, specializing in the discovery, development, and commercialization of proprietary and non-proprietary gene-based diagnostics for gynecologic cancer. Our mission is to improve care for women with gynecologic cancer by advancing the clinical diagnosis, staging, and treatment of their disease using newly developed DNA-based analyses of their tumor tissues.
Academic research on cancer genomics - the study of genes and pathways altered in cancer patients and in their tumors - is providing new insights into the molecular basis of the disease. These gene-based differences vary in individual patients and determine the likely course of their disease, as well as the probability of their response to different chemotherapeutic drugs and biologics. For optimal management of an individual patient's response to therapy, it is important to know the molecular characteristics of their specific tumors at different times during their treatment to guide the treating physician's decision process.
There are over 42,000 new cases of endometrial cancer, 25,000 new cases of ovarian cancer and over 11,000 new cases of cervical cancer diagnosed each year in the United States. OvaGene Oncology is developing innovative proprietary molecular assays designed to help guide gynecologic oncologists through the complexities of evaluating cancer treatment options for their patients.
Currently there is an unmet clinical need in the gynecologic cancer market for clinically useful prognostic and predictive molecular biomarkers. Through internal research efforts and on-site clinical lab validation OvaGene can fulfill that need by bringing life changing genomic-testing directly to cancer treating physician. There is no other company in the world who has the expertise, research capabilities, clinical laboratory infrastructure, key medical institution collaborations and established marketing channels within the gynecologic cancer medical community.
